AN ECONOMIST BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR From the author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Gulag and the National Book Award finalist Iron Curtain, a revelatory history of one of Stalin's greatest crimes—the consequences of which still resonate today In 1929 Stalin launched his policy of agricultural collectivization—in effect a second Russian revolution—which forced millions of peasants off their land and onto collective farms. The result was a catastrophic famine, the most lethal in European history. At least five million people died between 1931 and 1933 in the USSR. But instead of sending relief the Soviet state made use of the catastrophe to rid itself of a political problem. In Red Famine, Anne Applebaum argues that more than three million of those dead were Ukrainians who perished not because they were accidental victims of a bad policy but because the state deliberately set out to kill them. Devastating and definitive, Red Famine captures the horror of ordinary people struggling to survive extraordinary evil.  Today, Russia, the successor to the Soviet Union, has placed Ukrainian independence in its sights once more. The police claim this is a deescalation tactic and that may be but it really seems like this is semantics. Seattle PD abandoned the department after claiming they wouldn't and the far left moved in to create a 7 block area called the Capitol Hill Free Zone. It does seem a bit like these people are just LARPing but many are now taking up arms and wearing body armor. There are calls for armed guards to protect the barricades and local business have been forced to "disaffiliate" from the city. In other jurisdictions Prosecutors are outright refusing to charge rioters and protesters for crimes committed giving favorable law enforcement based on ideology. The secret to good government is a question no one in Washington is asking: “What’s the right thing to do?”
What’s wrong in Washington is deeper than you think.
Yes, there’s gridlock, polarization, and self-dealing. But hidden underneath is something bigger and more destructive. It’s a broken governing system. From that comes wasteful government, rising debt, failing schools, expensive health care, and economic hardship.

Would that be a good idea? Most rich people became prosperous by creating wealth. Jim Caruso took over a bankrupt brewery and turned it around by inventing creative craft beers. He now employs more than 100 people. The company he runs, Flying Dog Brewery, is worth millions. Caruso had a good answer when John Stossel asked him about the "unfairness" of some Americans having so much more money than others. The top fraction of earners does now own almost half America's assets. Caruso pointed out that Steve Jobs was worth $10 billion when he died, but since Apple sold more than 2 billion devices, Jobs collected just $5 per device. "I think Steve might have been underpaid here," he says. Most on the left don't see it that way. "The feeling tends to be that somebody like Steve Jobs took something away from everybody else," Caruso says. "But... what did Steve Jobs take? He had this idea, wouldn't it be great to have a thousand songs in your pocket... one of the most massively important tools for productivity and communication in life." Stossel says Jobs, and all entrepreneurs (if they don't partner with, or freeload off government) create more wealth than they take.

Berkeley didn’t want to spend millions of dollars to pay people to add the captions, so it simply pulled them off their website. Now deaf people weren’t disadvantaged because NOBODY could watch them. Except, entrepreneur Jeremy Kauffman had fortunately already copied them all to his platform, LBRY. Now anyone can watch them—for free. I’m glad that LBRY exists. It gives everyone a chance to watch everything.

But teachers struggle to keep students engaged remotely. Some teachers don't even use online videoconferencing. In Los Angeles, the teachers union even negotiated a contract that says teachers are not required to use it. So, as media outlets put it, there are now "parents and guardians forced into full-time homeschooling." Being out of school, they say, will “will set back a generation of children.” Bunk. Media outlets make it sound awful, but the reality is that homeschooled kids -- despite being from poorer families, on average, do better on tests. Preventative Treatment for COVID19.  
Vitamin C 500 mg twice a day and Quercetin 250-500 mg twice a day.
Zinc 75-100 mg/day (acetate, gluconate or picolinate). Zinc lozenges are preferred. After 1
month, reduce the dose to 30-50 mg/day.
Melatonin (slow release): Begin with 0.3mg and increase as tolerated to 2 mg at night
Vitamin D3 1000-4000 u/day
Side note-
Dr. Chris Martinsen also adds Selenium, NAC 600mg twice per day, Elderberry Syrup and plenty of sleep.
 
Symptomatic patients (at home):
Vitamin C 500 mg twice a day and Quercetin 250-500 mg twice a day.

Hydroxychloroquine 400mg TWICE A DAY day 1, followed by 200mg TWICE A DAY for 4 days
In highly symptomatic patients, monitoring with home pulse oximetry is recommended. (ACU notes this is HIGHLY Recommended)
Famotidine (Pepcid) 40mg daily (20 mg in renal impairment)
Azithromycin 500 mg day 1 then 250 mg for 4 days (has immunomodulating properties including downregulating IL-6; in addition, Rx of concomitant bacterial pneumonia). [50]
Ivermectin 150-200 ug/kg (single dose)

For some, Hill 488 was just another landmark in the jungles of Vietnam. For the eighteen men of Charlie Company, it was a last stand. This is the stirring combat memoir written by Ray Hildreth, one of the unit's survivors. On June 13, 1966, men of the 1st Recon Battalion, 1st Marine Division were stationed on Hill 488. Before the week was over, they would fight the battle that would make them the most highly decorated small unit in the entire history of the U.S. military, winning a Congressional Medal of Honor, four Navy Crosses, thirteen Silver Stars, and eighteen Purple Hearts—some of them posthumously. During the early evening of June 15, a battalion of hardened North Vietnamese regulars and Viet Cong—outnumbering the Americans 25-to-1—threw everything they had at the sixteen Marines and two Navy corpsmen for the rest of that terror-filled night. Every man who held the hill was either killed or wounded defending the ground with unbelievable courage and unflagging determination—even as reinforcements were on the way. All they had to do was make it until dawn....
